Animals on the Edge: Call for Papers for IMC 2019 Session Proposal
Animals on the Edge:
Images – Material Culture – Texts
Call for Papers
for Session Proposal at the
2019 International Medieval Congress
University of Leeds
The Medieval Animal Data-network (MAD) is seeking submissions for three sessions for the 2019 International Medieval Congress which takes place in Leeds from the 1st to the 4th of July.
People throughout the medieval period have related to and depended on animals (real or imagined) for many reasons, and yet in many ways animals seem to be relegated to the edges of urban spaces, art and architecture, law, cultural history or even the known world. The proposed three sessions will focus on the always fascinating liminal position of animals with each session focused on Images, Texts, and Material Culture, respectively.
Original submissions are welcomed for 15-20 minute presentations ranging from Late Antiquity to the Late Middle Ages and from Western to Eastern Europe. Please, send a working title and a 250-word abstract by the 10th of September, 2018 to Monica A. Walker, Ph.D., at monica.ann.walker@gmail.com.
